“NESTS ARE SYMBOLIC OF BUILDING A FAMILY, OF NEW BEGINNINGS, AND OF SAFETY. THEY ARE A REFUGE, A PLACE OF GROWTH, AS WELL AS A POINT OF DEPARTURE.
THIS EMPTY NEST IS MORE THAN A STRUCTURE. IT IS A REFLECTION ON THE HOMES WE BUILD AND THE HOMES WE LEAVE BEHIND. OUR HOUSES (NESTS) ARE OUR CORNER OF THE WORLD, OUR FIRST UNIVERSE.” - HAMISH YOUNG RWA MRSS |

🪹 Whether it’s the words you never got to say, a happy memory, a thank you or maybe a goodbye - send a “Letter Home” this September with artist Hamish Young’s poignant and thought-provoking community art installation.
🪹 Nestling inside the welcoming community space of St Peter’s Church, you’ll find “Nest”: an ambitious sculpture that initially seems to defy the laws of physics and gravity; a structure constructed from hundreds of cardboard postal tubes. This humble material allows both artist and visitor to draw on the rich associations of a material so often utilised as protection for objects in transit - a substance we subsequently discard without a second thought. 🪹 Artist Hamish Young invites you to visit Nest, to sit and contemplate a while; to write - if you wish - a letter home, to wherever, whenever, or whomever that might be. 🪹 When your words are committed to paper, you can post your missive into the sculpture itself. Will your message reach its intended recipient? What happens to our memories, thoughts and words unsaid? |
