ArtPort is excited to announce that the 2025 ArtPort Photography Open Competition & Exhibition is open for entries.
It’s easy to enter, and we welcome and encourage photographers of all ages and abilities. Certificates and prizes will be awarded by our experienced judges.
There is no time limit on when your photograph was taken, so delve into your archives or pick up your camera or phone and get out into our beautiful county.

THEMES
You are invited to submit your original images on either of this year’s themes: THEME A) ‘Around and About BS20’ • Deliberately broad in scope, this theme could be interpreted in lots of ways. So whether you’re inspired by street photography or landscapes, architecture, people or “slice of life” candid captures - this is the category for you. • This theme is open to amateur photographers only - of any age or level of experience. THEME B) ‘Nearby Nature’ • This theme focuses on the rich diversity of wildlife habitats and nature reserves that we are so lucky to be surrounded by here in North Somerset. Perhaps you’ll be inspired by the salt marshes, coastline or nature reserve; or perhaps you’ll spot something in a more urban or unusual place? We can’t wait to find out! • This theme is open to ALL photographers, of all ages and abilities, whether amateur or professional. |
WHY TAKE PART?
• EXPERIENCE, CONFIDENCE & ENCOURAGEMENT The ArtPort Photography Open is open to EVERYONE. Many of our participants are young people or adults who are picking up a camera for the first time. Our experienced judges actively promote and share their love of photography and are generous with their positive feedback and encouragement - particularly for our younger exhibitors. • SEE YOUR WORK IN A REAL EXHIBITION All competition entries will be professionally printed for you and exhibited as part of the ArtPort25 Photography Showcase in the Folk Hall as a key part of Portishead Arts Festival. • CELEBRATE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS Certificates and prizes will be awarded by our experienced judges. • COMMUNITY Support and be a part of a wonderful, annual community festival. |
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
• KEY DATES - Submissions open 18th August 2025 - Submissions close 5pm 18th September 2025 - ArtPort Photography Exhibition runs Saturday 27th - 28th, September, 2025 • ENTRY FEE There is a small entry fee of £2.50 per photo, or 3 entries for £6.00 offer, towards the costs of printing the photos for display in Folk Hall. After the competition closes you are welcome to keep your prints. • HOW TO PAY You can pay online by PayPal, or by going in to Nortech Computers, on Portishead High Street. There are different entry forms and instructions for each. • THE THEME Select the category that best fits the work you want to submit. You can submit different images to different categories, but not the same photo to both. Remember - your photos must be taken within BS20. |
