Maunagh Kelly left school at 16 but later studied the oboe at The Royal Northern in Manchester, where she went on to work in orchestras and also became part of the 80s Hacienda music scene.
She started writing poetry while in Manchester and has been widely published in various magazines and placed in the top three in many competitions, including winning the Canterbury Poetry Prize. She moved to Bristol in the early 2000s. She had a fallow period, poetry-wise, during which time she worked as a portrait artist and wrote three novels but in recent years she has been drawn back to poetry. Maunagh’s new pamphlet is published by Red Guitar press – it’s called Picking Up Light and was launched last year. |
Bob Walton is no stranger to Portishead: he taught at Gordano School for 18 happy years, way back in the 20th century, from 1982-2000. Three times winner of the North American Festival of Wales Poetry Prize, he has a PhD in Creative Writing from Cardiff University, where he taught the subject until 2022. Bob’s a member of The Spoke poetry collective, runs the popular Under the Red Guitar poetry night in Bristol and co-runs the online Chapter One Creative Writing Group in association with North Somerset’s Super Culture. His second collection, Sax Burglar Blues, is published by Seren Books and his third is in preparation.
