Your guide to shopping small and local, supporting independent artists, makers and traders.
BRILLIANT BAUBLES
We adore Kate Birnie’s hand-painted Christmas baubles for their ultra vivid, colour saturated presence - they don’t call her ‘Colour Pop Kate’ for nothing! These gorgeously saturated decorations will make your tree unique and contemporary- and they make great gifts too. Find Kate at the big Bristol Christmas Fair at Bristol Beacon next weekend (10/11th Dec).
THE ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS WREATH
One of the great things about shopping from local artists is that you are guaranteed to find something that bit different. These beautiful dried flower hoops made by Rachel Lovell of Kittiwake Dried Flower Creations, are the most fabulous alternative Christmas wreaths for those of us who prefer a more subdued interior palette. And of course you can then enjoy your investment all year round! We also love Rachel’s innovative take on the traditional idea of the bauble; her glass pomanders filled with flowers and grasses perfectly complement her flower hoops and wreaths - and make a perfect gift.
RECYCLED MATERIALS
Hilary ‘Mudlarking’ Martin recycles and upcycles found objects and materials to craft her unique decorations and characterful tableaux - making them a sustainable and eco-friendly choice. We love her bottle brush Christmas trees and her subtle humour - her “Spirit of Christmas’ tableau has a recycled spirit level as it’s base!
UNUSUAL FINDS FROM A LOCAL INDEPENDENT TRADER
We love to support local independent businesses - and Ebb & Flo Boutique, just off Portishead High Street just happens to be one of our favourites. Claire and the team (not forgetting Jake the dog!) are proud champions of local arts and local makers. They stock a whole range of original art, jewellery, ceramics, prints and much more by local crafts people. They also source and stock a beautifully curated selection of unusual and covetable decorative and gift ideas - making your job easy! If you need a one-stop-shop for your Christmas shopping, Ebb & Flo would be an excellent place to start!
