Artist Carla James is inspired by both nature and her urban surroundings, underpinned by a strong sense of diverse ethnic identity.
Working across different mediums and using a rainbow of colours applied with a lightness of touch, Carla expresses strong emotion in a delicate way.
Growing up in the English countryside, Carla’s journey as an artist began at an early age, inspired by the amazing views from her hilltop village with magnificent city on one side, and rolling hills, valleys and lakes on the other.
In contrast, Carla’s other key influence stems from annual visits to the Caribbean island of Trinidad where her family are from, (with even earlier ancestry originating in India). It is clear to see the influence in Carla’s work of this heady mix of Caribbean and Indian cultural influences - lush tropical vegetation, exotic flowers and wildlife and the luminous colours and sounds of the rainforest.
