TRISH WILLIAMS

Picture
“Each painting is a delightful journey of unexpected outcomes.” - Trish Williams

TRISH WILLIAMS | PAINTER

Creativity is intrinsic to painter Trish Williams. Following a rewarding career as an art educator, Trish now follows her own professional artistic path.

Inspired by nature, and a keen observer of the tiny moments in life, Trish’s work celebrates both the beauty of the natural world, and also those moments of both joy and sadness that make us human, and life worth living: a tiny pair of outgrown shoes; a smile caught unaware; a robin boldly snatching a crumb from beneath your feet…

“Each painting is a delightful journey of unexpected outcomes.
When painting a still life, I often choose subjects personal to me such as my daughter’s first pair of shoes or my mother’s last pair of slippers, in an attempt to recreate memories of precious lost moments.

“I also enjoy painting ‘the everyday’: a bulb of garlic, a breakfast of boiled eggs and soldiers, a jar of Marmite, a pair of worn trainers. The natural world remains my biggest inspiration and I’m drawn to a variety of subjects -perhaps a plant growing from a crack in the wall; a bee doing its own thing; garden birds and other wildlife.”

Portraiture is a particular skill - and one in which Trish Williams excels.
“People fascinate me - their expressions, gestures, glances - trying to capture that moment someone is truly themselves. Portraits have long been a favourite subject whether in charcoal or paint. I generally work from photographs, although painting from life is preferable, or a mixture of both”.

Trish is always experimenting with new ways of working -
“Collage is an exciting new medium for me; created using layers of hand painted papers and acrylic. Every collage starts with a general composition and plan but usually evolves in to something completely different. I’m continually inspired by different threads/directions which could mean I’m working on an oil portrait one week or creating a still life collage the next. The medium changes depending on what best suits the subject.”
